Collection Information

The Harold Goldstein Library features a book collection of 65,000 volumes, consisting of professional and reference materials as well as juvenile and easy books. The library subscribes to more than 400 serials and journals. Online databases, such as Web of Science and FirstSearch, are also available via one of the sixteen computers located in the library.

The Harold Goldstein Library upholds the missions of the Florida State University Libraries and the College of Information and is committed to providing the broadest possible access to sources of information in the library and information studies and information technology fields. The library supplies materials, services, and facilities to support the teaching, research, and service of the College and the University.

Professional Collection (PROF)

The Professional Collection contains multi-format materials in the fields of librarianship and information technology. The materials also provide supplemental information for faculty and students in other schools and colleges of the Florida State University, especially the College of Education, and for information professionals in the local community and across the nation.

Reference Collection (REF)

This section contains reference materials supporting the curriculum of the College of Information as well as materials related to general knowledge. Some of the resources in the collection include almanacs, bibliographies, dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, handbooks, indexes and abstracts, library catalogs, and style manuals.

Juvenile Collection (JUV)

The Juvenile Collection includes fiction and non-fiction books targeted to children and young adults at reading levels of fourth grade and above. Books that have won the Newbery Medal, the Caldecott Medal, or other awards are honored in separate displays.

Easy Collection (EASY)

This collection consists of easy reading and picture books for beginning readers and children up to a third-grade reading level. Many of the books in the Easy collection contain award-winning illustrations.

Current and Bound Periodicals

Current and bound periodicals are arranged alphabetically by title. Some of the journals are published electronically and can be accessed through the FSU libraries web site. In addition, many serial publications are shelved in Goldstein’s Reference and Professional collections.
